Artist: Billy Currington Album: Doin' Somethin' Right (2005) |
Billy Currington's highly anticipated sophomore album (2005), Doin' Somethin' Right, is the follow up to his self-titled debut release which made a significant mark on the charts with three top ten singles. Accolades for his initial release include being named the first male artist in 7 years to have his first 3 singles reach the Top 10 and his first 3 videos reach #1 on the charts.
Billy's Doin' Somethin' Right album is a satisfying blend of today's rockin' country, with a traditional blues-tinged country and add a dash of nostalgia, with his cover of the Kenny Rogers' smash, Lucille but he does a unique trick to it , one that illustrates why this album is so enjoyable: he does a harder rockin' country version than Kenny Rogers, proving that he can pull off both lighter pop music and hands down country with one song. The rest of the album goes back and forth between these two extremes -- sometimes subtlety, sometimes not . The end result is a country album with both muscle and speaks to the heart, one that is just as enjoyable when it's laid-back as when it rocks out.
It's an excellent second album and one that should make Billy Currington a star.
